It’s a literature lover’s heaven here. This is the home of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop at the university, which has produced more than a few Pulitzer Prize winners. For a metropolitan area of around 100,000, that’s not bad. Our latest houseguest visited bookstores or libraries almost every day last week. We are also the home of this bookstore. An outing to the children’s department produced great birthday cards for Daddy and some wonderful book recommendations, also available on their website. Our favorite was a beautifully illustrated Little Red Riding Hood by Jerry Pinkney (shared here by Sue with her siblings).
Before our time in the state is done, I hope to take advantage of at least a weekend of the Summer Writers’ Festival (poetry? humor? children’s lit? memoir?), then I may feel truly Hawkeye.
sue holding the baby’s hand while she reads is just too cute!
Can Sue actually read? What a smart girl.
I better clarify: Sue was reciting the story, but not actually reading! (Although she is a smart girl anyway.)
“Memory, my dear Cecily, is the diary that we all carry about with us.” (O.W. Importance of being Ernest) Great memories and heavy books. 😉
